Let’s be honest. Sometimes, the best part of the Christmas cookie box is the regular ‘ol chocolate chip cookies. I mean, sure, the peppermint mocha cookies and Christmas-shaped sugar cookies are fun. But they’re also everywhere.

There’s nothing wrong with making the same cookies everyone else is making. But one of the best ways to stand out from the hoards of gingerbread and green-and-white frosted cookies is to make simple cookies with a little twist.

If you’ve read (or made) any of my other recipes, you know how much I love to give simple recipes a teeny twist. So, I’m thrilled to share my favorite cookie recipes for your Christmas cookie boxes!

Oh – and don’t worry! If you do like peppermint, mocha, gingerbread, or red and green Christmas cookies, I’ll share some ways to give these recipes some festive flair.

How To Make Regular Cookies Into Christmas Cookies

Just like all my other recipes, you can easily change these up with just a few ingredient swaps. In fact, as I list them, you’ll probably start thinking of even more ways to Christmas-ize them too.

  • Sprinkles – If a cookie calls for sprinkles or looks like it could use some, use red and green sprinkles.
  • Chocolate Chips – If a cookie uses candy or any other mix-in, use red and green candies or peppermint chocolate chips.
  • Frosting – decorate the cookies with peppermint frosting or red and green frosting.
  • Powdered Sugar – dusting cookies with powdered sugar makes it look like it snowed.
  • Toppings – Any cookies with toppings can be swapped with Christmas toppings (like Christmas Oreos or holiday candies).
