Welcome back to the Secret Crunch kitchen! Today, we’re diving into the world of matcha by making a batch of Matcha Green Tea Cookies! Get ready to experience a burst of green tea flavor in every bite of these perfectly sweet treats.
The other day, I was rummaging through my pantry, and I stumbled upon a can of high-quality matcha green tea powder that I purchased a couple months back. Rather than letting it sit idle, I decided to infuse its vibrant flavor into a batch of cookies to create a unique and delicious treat. I’m SO excited to share with you how I made these oh-so-delicious Matcha White Chocolate Cookies.
What Are the Benefits of Matcha?
Besides its deliciously nutty and earthy taste, matcha packs a punch in terms of health benefits – and this is why so many of us home bakers love using it as an ingredient. Some of its benefits include:
- Rich in antioxidants to boost metabolism
- Helps enhance focus
- Helps promote healthy digestion
- Contains vitamin C, chromium, magnesium, selenium and zinc.
Do These Matcha Green Tea White Chocolate Cookies Taste Grassy?
I get it, I get it… matcha tends to have a reputation of having a “grassy” taste. I’m proud to say, however, that these Matcha Green Tea Cookies strike a perfect balance between the earthy notes of matcha and the sweetness of white chocolate chips. Rest assured, the blend of flavors in this recipe ensures a delightful, harmonious taste experience without any overpowering grassy flavors.

How Long Can I Keep Leftover White Chocolate Matcha Cookies?
…that’s if you *have* any leftovers! For these cookies, I recommend placing them in an airtight food container and leaving them on the counter (ie: room temperature) from 3 to 5 days.
Do I Need to Chill the Dough?
What’s great about these cookies is that chilling is not 100% required. Of course, you can put any uncooked cookie dough in the fridge (we recommend for up to 5 days, wrapped in plastic), and be sure to let set on the countertop before baking. It will be easier to roll into cookie dough balls.
How To Make Matcha Green Tea Cookies
Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. Lay a piece of parchment paper on a cookie sheet, and set it aside.
In a large bowl, combine melted butter, both sugars and egg. You’ll want to mix these ingredients until they’re well-combined and creamy.
Grab another bowl, and in there, you’ll want to sift your flour, matcha, baking soda and salt.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and combine until a cookie dough forms. Next, add your white chocolate chips.
Take your cookie dough and roll into one inch balls. Place each cookie ball gently on your lined cookie sheet – about 1 ½ inches apart from each other (if using a standard sized cookie sheet, the maximum you should try to fit are 12 cookies).
Bake for 9 minutes or until edges are slightly golden. Allow to cool for 5 minutes and serve. Enjoy!
