I was determined to become the mom known for her mouthwatering chocolate chip cookies, so I embarked on a special mission…

The Concept of One-Pot and One-Bowl Meals and Desserts
Anyone that knows me, knows that I am all about a good one-pot meal. For a busy family, one-pot meals are ideal because they require minimal preparation, streamline the cooking process, and result in fewer dishes to clean up afterwards. This means less time spent in the kitchen and more quality time together at the dinner table.
I thought to myself: why not do the same for desserts? Better yet: why not do this for cookies?
Becoming the Mom With the Best Cookies
When I think of my mom, I always think of the recipes she perfected in her lifetime. I think that as a parent, it’s key to have those meals and desserts that leave a lasting impression on your family.
Now that I’m a mom, I aim to do the same thing. I want to leave a legacy of recipes that my children and grandchildren will boast about.
A couple of years ago, I made it my goal to develop the best chocolate chip cookies… well, best for our family, at least.
What to Expect From Our One Bowl Chocolate Chip Cookies
Developing our family’s preferred chocolate chip cookies was quite the adventure. After (happily) testing a variety of cookies, we realized that we liked the chewier variety with a crispy edge.
I’m often told that these are comparable bakery-style chocolate chip cookies: no joke when I say, I am constantly complimented on them. Mission accomplished? I think so!
Expect these cookies to be on the flatter side, with a crispy edge but still a good amount of “gooeyness” in the middle – especially when they’re freshly baked!
Does This Make for a Good Base Cookie?
Absolutely! The best part about this homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe is that it’s a fantastic base cookie. Use it as your base recipe and add all sorts of other ingredients like nuts, pretzels, chocolate bar bits, etc.
What Ingredients Do You Need to Make These One Bowl Chocolate Chip Cookies?
Chocolate chip cookies are a basic recipe that every household needs. Luckily, it doesn’t require any complicated ingredients. In fact, you likely have all the required ingredients in your pantry already!
For our family’s classic 1 bowl chocolate chip cookie recipe, you’ll need the following:
- Butter
- Granulated Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Eggs
- All-Purpose Flour
- Salt
- Baking Soda
- Milk Chocolate Chips
Why Add Butter to Chocolate Chip Cookies?
Butter makes it better! Shortening or butter are added to cookies to give them that perfect tender consistency.
For my family’s one-bowl chocolate chip cookies recipe, I opted for softened butter. Many recipes call for melted butter, which results in a greasier cookie. I wanted to keep the structure a bit more sturdy for our batch, hence the softened option.
What Does Brown Sugar Do to Cookies?
Most recipes for classic chocolate chip cookies use a 1:1 ratio of granulated sugar to brown sugar. Brown sugar’s role in cookies is keeping the treat’s softness, allowing for that classic “gooey” texture.
I was a little heavy-handed with the brown sugar for our recipe. However, I made sure to keep a close eye on the granulated sugar and its measurements. It’s all about structure, and I didn’t want an extremely floppy cookie.
