These donuts are the answer to everything! It’s an easy way for beginner decorators to practice and get better. And they’re a lot of fun for experienced decorators, too.

Blue Cookie Monster Donuts

Everything about these donuts is made from scratch – even the whipped frosting. Well, almost everything. I didn’t make the googly eyes – I bought those. But everything else is homemade.

And I found that adding Greek yogurt to the homemade cake donuts makes them taste incredible! They have the perfect balance of crumb and moisture. And for the blue food coloring, I suggest using gel food coloring. It will make them vibrant – just like Cookie Monster.

Easy Birthday Donuts

These blue monster donuts are the perfect desserts to make for a Sesame Street birthday party. Kids will reach for them and you’ll watch them disappear.

You can also set up a donut decorating station at your party and let everyone make their own creative donut monsters. It might get messy, but it’s so much fun!

Easy Homemade Donuts

Even though they are made from scratch, they are still super easy. Just measure out the ingredients, mix them together in the correct order, and then pipe the batter into the donut pan.

Do you have to use a piping bag for baked donuts? No, you don’t. But I promise you, it’s so much easier if you pipe the batter into the pan. If you try to use spoons or a spatula, the batter will be difficult to get into the pan correctly.

You can even make the mini cookies at home, too. I saved time and just bought some mini chocolate chip cookies.

How Long Will Cookie Monster Donuts Last?

Because they are topped with frosting, you need to store the donuts in the refrigerator.

Keep the decorated donuts in an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator and eat them within three days.

Baked donuts that don’t have any frosting can be kept in an airtight container at room temperature. They will last about a week this way.

How To Make Cookie Monster Donuts

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees. These donuts are baked, so be sure to spray a donut pan with cooking spray, then set aside.

In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and ground cinnamon.

In another bowl, whisk together egg and brown sugar. Once those two ingredients are well-combined, add milk and Greek yogurt, followed by the melted butter.

Once all wet ingredients are mixed together, add blue gel food coloring and stir until completely tinted.

Next, slowly add dry ingredients into wet ingredients and fold until well combined. The batter will be thick.

Insert batter into a piping bag, and pipe into each section of your donut tin.

Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in the center.

Allow to cool for 5 minutes and remove from pan. Place on a wire rack and allow to cool down completely before decorating.

Once the donuts are cooled, prepare your buttercream. Use an electric mixer to beat together softened butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder and milk. If your buttercream is too runny, add more powdered sugar, one tablespoon at a time. If it’s too thick, add more milk one tablespoon at a time.

Your buttercream is ready once it forms semi-stiff peaks. Scoop the buttercream into a piping bag with Wilton tip #233 frost each donut.

Next, add your googly candy eyes at the top of each frosted donut, and a cookie at the bottom.

Serve and enjoy!
